Do I need an AST course first?

Yes, you should have an AST1 or equivalent training prior to this course. If you don’t have prior learning you could join us on a guided overnight trip instead!

WINTER CAMPING

Want to learn how to stretch those trips into a few days? Get the most out of your approaches and valley slogs? This is a 2.5 day course designed as an introduction to winter camping. There is an online course to complete before meeting on the first day, which is a 2 hours prep class before heading out the next week. We will go over trip planning, packing, and meal prep and then you will have time to get your pack in order. 2 full days, and 1 night in the mountains with as much riding as your legs can handle thrown in for good measure!

Do I need my own glacier travel gear?

You need your own harness, and ideally you will bring your own gear in order to practice with what you own. However, if you are just getting started and are unsure what to purchase we have some equipment available.

GLACIER RESCUE & TRAVEL

2 day course that spends the first day covering theory and techniques, and the second day in the field applying what we’ve learned.

This course covers the necessary equipment, self arrest skills, self and group rescue techniques, and safe practices involved in travelling on glaciated terrain. These skills are also applicable to cliffs or other vertical rescue scenarios.
